He Shikun is a professor at the Roski Institute of Ophthalmology and Department of Pathology at the University of Southern California in the United States. 

He is a member of the International Society for the Study of Chromocytes and a member of epigenetics. 

He is also a member of the American Association for the Study of Ophthalmology and Vision.

He is one of the main founders of the Overseas Chinese Ophthalmology and Vision Association and served as the chairman of the Overseas Chinese Ophthalmology and Vision Research Association for 10 years. 

He is one of the initiators and organizers of the RPE topic at the National Congress of the Chinese Ophthalmic Society. 

He first initiated and jointly organized the China US Ophthalmology Summit Forum with the Chinese Ophthalmology Society during the ARVO conference in the United States for fifteen consecutive years, providing a platform for Chinese ophthalmologists to showcase their research achievements and promote cooperation and exchange in ophthalmology between China and the United States. 

He also organized several ophthalmology symposiums (Special Interesting Group) at ARVO. Formerly served as the deputy editor in chief of the International Journal of Biomedical Science and an editorial board member of the Chinese Journal of Ophthalmology. Currently serves as an editorial board member for journals such as the Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology, the Chinese Journal of Occupational Ophthalmology in Eye Trauma, the Chinese Journal of Optometry and Visual Science, the Journal of Bimolecular Rsearch&Therapy, the Austin Journal of Clinical Pathology, the Open Access Journal of Ophthalmology, the Allied Journal of Clinical Pathology Research, and Frontiers in Bioscience Landmark; 

The main works include: the first editor in chief of "Fundamentals and Clinical Practice of Retinal Pigment Epithelium" and "Epigenetics of Ophthalmology", participated in the writing of "Corneal Immunology", "Ophthalmology Genetics", and "Ocular Diseases", and was also the main author of the chapter on epigenetics in Steven Ryan's book Retina and one of the main translators of the first volume's Chinese translation. 

He is a reviewer for over 30 English journals and a Changjiang Scholar reviewer, and has been appointed as a guest or honorary professor of ophthalmology at five universities in China (Peking University People's Hospital Ophthalmology, Fourth Military University Xijing Hospital Ophthalmology, Tianjin Medical University Ophthalmology Center, Third Military Medical University Southwest Hospital Ophthalmology, and Zhengzhou University Henan Ophthalmology Research Institute). 

His main research achievements include: the association between connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) and the formation of PVR and CNV; Soluble EphB4 inhibits choroidal neovascularization; The role of endoplasmic reticulum stress response in oxidative stress response of retinal pigment epithelial cells; AlphaB crystal protein regulates VEGF production mechanism; The association between epigenetic factor MeCP2 and retinal fibrosis. 

In 2008, the Ophthalmology Society of the Chinese Medical Association awarded Professor He Shikun the Outstanding Achievement Award for Overseas Chinese Ophthalmology.
