Professor Ching-Yu Cheng is the Director of the Center for Innovation & Precision Eye Health at National University of Singapore. He concurrently heads the Data Science Unit and Ocular Epidemiology Research Group at Singapore Eye Research Institute. His research work involves a variety of epidemiological, clinical, and genetic research related to age-related ocular diseases. As Director of the Singapore Epidemiology of Eye Diseases (SEED) program, his team has built up one of the largest epidemiological databases for ocular diseases in the world. The achievements of the SEED program are visible via both a number of high-impact publications and the surging amount of new knowledge. The data from SEED have been widely used by leading international agencies. He also works on AI-based big data analytics for disease prediction and detection based on ocular images. Professor Cheng has published >600 papers, included those in Nature Genetics, JAMA, NEJM, Lancet Global Health, and Lancet Digital Health. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Ophthalmic Epidemiology. His honors include the Clinician Scientist Awards in Singapore; the APAO Achievement Award and Outstanding Service in Prevention of Blindness Award; the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award, and the Fellow of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
