Dr. Wang once served as the Vice Chair and Director of Cornea and External Disease Service at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Arizona College of Medicine. As a full time clinician, Dr. Wang actively participates in teaching, Ophthalmology resident training and scientific research. He received his MD (1987) and PhD (1993) degrees from China Medical University in Shenyang, China. He then received postdoctoral training in several US laboratories. From 2002 to 2005, Dr. Wang completed his Internal Medicine residency training at Maryland General Hospital– University of Maryland. Dr. Wang maintains an active clinical practice, performing eyelid, corneal, refractive and cataract surgeries. His corneal transplantation service provides cutting-edge anterior and posterior lamellar keratoplasty, including DALK, DSAEK and DMEK. In recent years, he has established continuous antibiotic lavage through an ocular irrigation lens as new treatment modalities for recalcitrant infectious keratitis. His research aims to tackle challenges encountered in daily Ophthalmology practice. Using modern laboratory techniques and animal models, his dry eye research explored new directions and found new mechanisms of the conjunctiva in maintaining the ocular surface homeostasis. He discovered compounds which can stimulate the upregulation of conjunctival aquaporin and goblet cell mucins. International patent for these compounds is pending and work is under way to investigate therapeutic potentials of these compounds for dry eye treatment.

Dr. Wang has authored several book chapters. His book Eye Diseases Associated with Sleep Disorders was translated into Chinese and published in 2017. He has also published more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers and owns several patents. In 2016, he founded NeuVision Medical Institute to promote the spread of updated medical knowledge and technology. With the support of UCLA-Doheny Eye Institute, he hosts an annual US-China Cornea Forum, serving as a platform for clinical information exchange.
